Sleeping off what we can only describe as a drug induced fever dream after our super exclusive invite to The Carrot Cult’s ‘Not A Cult’ club in the early hours of the morning, we stumble back into the scorching sun. It appears though, that the fever dream has not yet ended. After catching a glimpse of a few members already dressed in their Viking-meets-Pope garb in the Press Area, we had to see more of Australia’s own BattleSnake. We follow them down to the main stage, experiencing the almost religious awakening of their set in full swing, opening with ‘I killed Satan’, one of their most recent releases - with a brief break between songs, where the lead singer (Sam Frank) called out for a circle pit which the crowd helpfully started, with one of the band members making the jump into the crowd to join in!

It was then a quick run to the Marshall tent to catch a bit of BiCurious, the Dublin based duo performed songs from their latest album ‘Your Life is Over now’. From humble beginnings, crowd funding for their first release, their EP ‘I’m So Confused in 2017, the sound from these two spans melodic to electric. We perhaps would have enjoyed their set all the more had our own duo over at Feats. were not taking turns having wobblies in the sun.

After, with a quick dash back to Press to prepare for our interview with Jack and Becca of Marmozets (be sure to look out for us dropping this interview coming soon), we caught some of Mouth Culture, hitting the main stage playing their latest single “on and on”. They've been absolutely flying this year, with their headlining tour, and back-to-back festival line-ups with 2000Trees, All Points East, and recently announcing they’ll be supporting South Arcade on their ‘Welcome to the real world’ tour early next year.

It’d be rude of us to miss Petrol Girls, residing in Austria but forming in London in 2012, they graced The Cave Stage with their stance and messages as clear as ever. Yonks is particularly a fan, with both the band’s and their solidarity to the Palestine solidarity movement, as well as Singer Ren Aldridge talking of many other social issues we have to face in the world today. As Yonks arrived to the stage, Aldridge was talking about how femicides are often reported as ‘crimes of passion’, to which she commented, “It’s about fucking power, It’s about ownership, it’s about control. Men, you do not own us, and we owe you nothing.” before heading into their song “Dignity for Dead Women.” Jin Jiyan Azadi. Petrol Girls have the ability to understand how all these issues of the world correlate, and honestly, more people need to start connecting our struggles, where you’re on, to the side of the stage, or in the crowd. Strains of the same chain are wrapped around so many of us who are marginalised - one struggle, one fight. They closed out with their iconic song, ‘Touch Me Again’ from their album ‘Talk Of Violence’ and made the pits before their final song of the set look pitiful by comparison.
Marmozets were up next for us, headed to the main stage and still riding both the rebel rousing of Petrol Girls’ set and interviewing Marmozets earlier on in the day. The band are back with their first album of eight years, and both this and the set left us anything but disappointed. With various singles from the new album, along with classics like ‘Move, Shake, Hide.” and of course, ‘Is It Horrible?’ which Yonks crowdsurfed for!

Closing out the festival we had Neck Deep pushing the main stage arena to capacity, with with the band delivering on their promise to get the exhausted audience moving one last time, early in the set the band performed their iconic ‘She's A God’ with a special request from the lead singer Ben Barlow for a “girl pit”, which immediately caused a rush to the center of the crowd, an excellent excuse to let loose and have fun, accompanied by incredible set & lighting design across the board, that helped set the tone for the rest of their performance! With mixtures of both some of their newer songs and older hits, the set was an incredible way to end out the week, eventually concluding their set with ‘in bloom’. Leaving me with more of a sombre tone than I was expecting. Not because their performance wasn't amazing, but because it meant that the absolutely amazing experience of my first 2000Trees was in fact coming to an end!

This year was a first for both our team members covering 2000Trees, and I think we can genuinely say that it will not be the last, the energy, the vibes & the absolute (controlled) chaos that is 2000Trees is truly something that will last with us for the rest of our lives - and I am so excited to do it all again next year!
Blessed Be 🥕
