Feats. helps young creatives kickstart their careers with paid, published opportunities covering live music, emerging artists, and the unheard stories that shape the industry.
What we Offer:
Learn More About What We Do:
-
We are an independent music publication that focuses on upcoming and talented artists within the wider music industry. We strive to bring change to the industry through sharing stories and highlighting the journeys behind your favourite music!
We work with a spectrum of artists from all over the music industry, bringing our readers news, interviews, and giving you tips on everything they need to know!
We also work directly with young professionals to guide, mentor & develop their professional skills, to provide a ‘stepping stone’ into long-term professional freelance/creative careers.
-
We commission young creative professionals to cover a wide spectrum of stories within the music industry - with the intention on providing coverage to artists that are often overlooked within the industry.
This allows us to have a ‘two-pronged’ approach to our coverage, as we are able to provide media coverage which artists have often used to springboard their careers into more mainstream reach. Whilst also aiming to lower the barrier of entry into creative industries such as journalism & photography by providing paid, real-world experience and a platform for a commissioned, published portfolio of work that the creatives can use to develop there professional career. In doing so we also offer mentorship, guidance & personal development opportunities to our creatives.
-
Currently Feats. Has young professional contributor spanning most major cities in the country, we ask our freelancers to ‘pitch’ upcoming coverage of gigs/releases with the view of writing a review or editorial article about it, following this the Feats. management team then works to gain accreditation & arrange logistics for our journalists/photographers.
This is a different approach to a regular “commisioning” publication because we believe that the best people to cover the local music scene in any area are the residents of that area, in our application process, we screen for creatives who have a real interest in their local scene & who want to develop as a professional.
Once accreditation/access is arranged we work with the creative to ensure that there are minimal barriers to completing the assignment - we help them with framing for the article, we help with invoicing & understanding the complexities with licenseing & copyrights, and provide guidelines & templates for various day-to-day items that a professional might require.Once the final draft is completed by the creative, the Feats. The management team do a final editor pass on the piece, where it is then scheduled & published to the Feats. Website. We work hard to ensure that appropriate credit & acknowledgements are made to ensure that our creatives can get the most out of the publication.
-
One of our Core missions is to provide coverage for small and independent artists, who often find it extremely hard to gain any form of mainstream reach. Because of this we encourage artists to reach out to Feats. Directly, on top of our contributors suggesting coverage for artists.
Once an artist makes a request we work with our contributors to find who is available and arrange logistics to provide the coverage requested. We then complete research into the artist, and often liaise directly with them or their management for interviews or comments.
After we have completed the article or coverage, ensure that the artist is made aware of our coverage, and provide links to all media coverage. We also often work with our photographers to arrange licensing or usage of their images with appropriate credit. -
Feats. Is a non-profit publication, it was founded with the intention of providing access & building the professional careers of the founding members, by providing Leads, contacts & experience. Whilst also allowing us to highlight artists who hadn’t reached mainstream reach.
Since then, original team has gone on to achieve successful freelance careers- using Feats. As a stepping stone into other industry roles, notable examples include: Sophie B leveraging her published portfolio to get an editor role at Punktastic, Tom E using his contacts he made whilst producing content for Feats. To work directly with artists & festivals such as; Sleep Token & Reading & Leeds festival. With that in Mind we’ve recognised the importance of having a platform like Feats. To start a career in the Music industry, but we also recognised that the vast majority of our ‘competitors’ are unable to provide Paid experience, which has led to an increasingly difficult barrier to entry for young professionals, especially for those who come from less privileged backgrounds.
This comes from the fact that working/middle-class young people often cant afford to complete unpaid work experience. This prevents them from being able to develop a professional portfolio, which is often a requirement for getting a job in the industry.
The other side of Feats. Is that we have been able to witness & participate in the growth of artists like Vlure, SNAYX & Hotwax, all of whom we were able to provide some of their original press coverage, which at least in part was able to boost their presence in the industry, and are all now running successful careers as musicians. Vlure won the Scottish Alternative Music Award for "Best Live Act" just over a year after our initial coverage, similarly SNAYX, another artist we were able to cover at the beginning of their career is a finalist in the "Best UK Breakthrough Artist" category at the Heavy Music Awards 2025, where they were also finalists in the same category for the 2024 Heavy Music Awards. These examples evidence that early media coverage for artists can be critical for artists trying to make a name for themselves!
